Behind the scenes there are a lot of individuals who come together to make sports possible for us all to enjoy and for the athletes have a platform to display their talents and gifts. These builders have contributed in ways that deserve gratitude and recognition.

Steven Mawhinney has been a gym rat ever since he first started playing basketball in the 1970s at Marlborough elementary in South Burnaby.
John Stockdale grew up in North Burnaby playing soccer and swimming but made his mark playing for SFU’s water polo club team as well as coaching it until 1981.
Valentine James Roche was a Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame inductee who was considered the father of lacrosse in North Burnaby.
John Buchanan arrived at Simon Fraser University in 1966 and hasn’t left. Along with being a facilities manager, Buchanan founded the school’s soccer program which gained varsity status in 1975.
Richard (Dick) McClure has been the "Boatman at Burnaby Lake" for almost 30 years. The former silver medal-winning rower at the 1956 Olympic Games, also has 25 years of coaching
Lou Moro is one of the most respected trainers in the country in soccer and lacrosse.
Dave Fryatt is deserving of the title "Mr Soccer"; served the B.C. Soccer Association for more than 35 years, including 18 years as president.
Norma Foster is the first women in world to receive international judging status for world class karate competitions.
Jack Crosby, Burnaby's Mr. Lacrosse; has been president of Burnaby Minor Lacrosse Association since 1964.
Moira Colbourne started the field hockey program in Burnaby in 1968 and was instrumental one year later of forming Burnaby Women's Field Hockey Association.
