General:
Two broad dimensions are used to evaluate all nominees:
1. Achievements; and
2. Connection to Burnaby.
Achievements:
Entry into the Burnaby Sports Hall Of Fame is granted to those who have achieved extraordinary performance and results as demonstrated by:
Medals/Championships won
Noteworthy statistics
Provincial, National and/or International participation/results
Other, category unique elements (see below).
Burnaby Connection:
Nominees must be connected to the City of Burnaby in one or more of the following ways:
✔️ Grew up in Burnaby
✔️ Live(d) in Burnaby
✔️ Acquired/honed their skills in Burnaby
✔️ Achievements were with Burnaby based teams/clubs/schools
There are four (4) nomination categories:
1. Athlete –individual career achievements in one or more sports
2. Team – team achievements in a single season or across multiple seasons
3. Coach – longevity, innovation, legacy, results
4. Builder – initiative, longevity, legacy, results. A Builder can be defined as a founder, administrator, referee, official, trainer or volunteer.
Must have participated successfully in amateur or professional sport as an individual or a member of a team, and performed in such a way as to bring special honour to Burnaby. The athlete must have been a resident of Burnaby at the time of their achievement(s) or represented a Burnaby institution or team.
Must have attained a high level of excellence and brought honour to Burnaby sport at a National or International level in relation to junior, senior or high school, university/college level. Or, have reached the highest level attainable at that specific level of competition. Teams representing Burnaby or high schools, university/colleges will only be considered. Teams are selected for achievement in one year only.
Has participated successfully as a coach in amateur or professional sport at a Provincial, National or International level, performing in such a way as to bring special honour to Burnaby. The coach must have been a resident of Burnaby at the time of achievement(s) or represented a Burnaby team or institution.
Must have attained a high level of excellence and brought recognition or honour to Burnaby sport through on-going dedication to building of athletes, teams or sport itself. The builder must have been a resident of Burnaby at the time of achievement(s) or represented a Burnaby sporting body. A builder can be defined as an administrator, referee, official, trainer or volunteer.
Please complete the nomination forms as thoroughly as possible, with supporting documents, newspaper clippings, certificates of achievement, photographs, etc..
All nomination forms and accompanying documents will remain the property of the Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame committee. Please email, mail, or deliver the original form.
Voting on all nominations received will take place shortly after the deadline date and the successful inductees will be notified soon thereafter. The names of the inductees will also be published in the media.
