Our appreciation and gratitude goes out to all our inductees, nominees and scholarship candidates. The Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame is excited about the City of Burnaby providing a prominent place to inform Burnaby residents and visitors about the proud history and future of the city’s thriving sports community in its new Burnaby Lake Aquatics and Arena project.

The 1978 Burnaby women’s eight-oared rowing team won gold at the Canadian, U.S. and B.C. championships, while also winning the prestigious Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in the same year.

Five of the nine team members went on to win a bronze medal for Canada at the ’78 world championships in New Zealand. Team members included coxswain Barbara Mutch, stroke Tricia Smith and rowers Ina De Lure, Kim Gordon, Kelly Jacklin, Christine Neuland, Katie Burke, Lorna Schultz and Joy Fera. The coach was Pat Sweeney.
