The backbone of any great team or athlete is their coach or coaches. We’d like to recognize these individuals for bringing positivity, enthusiasm, support, trust, focus, winning goals, knowledge, respect, and patience with athletes in our community.
Mike Jones led Simon Fraser University to NAIA wrestling championships in 1988 -1993. is coaching has produced more than 300 dual wins while coaching 88 Americans and 25 NAIA champions.
A graduate of Burnaby South Secondary, he was extremely active in Burnaby minor hockey, coaching the Burnaby Winter Club to the B.C. Peewee title in 1972-73.
John Stockdale grew up in North Burnaby playing soccer and swimming but made his mark playing for SFU’s water polo club team as well as coaching it until 1981.
John Buchanan arrived at Simon Fraser University in 1966 and hasn’t left. Along with being a facilities manager, Buchanan founded the school’s soccer program which gained varsity status in 1975.
