Our appreciation and gratitude goes out to all our inductees, nominees and scholarship candidates. The Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame is excited about the City of Burnaby providing a prominent place to inform Burnaby residents and visitors about the proud history and future of the city’s thriving sports community in its new Burnaby Lake Aquatics and Arena project.

Although he had a good playing career growing up in Burnaby it’s his two decades of excellence off the floor and field where Steve Govett has made his mark.

Govett has been the president and general manager for the wildly successful Colorado Mammoth, a team that attracts 17,000 spectators to its games, since 2002. Since then the Mammoth have compiled a 104-90 win-loss record heading into the 2016 season now underway.

He held the same positions with the Washington Power the three previous seasons. The current Mammoth roster has three former Burnaby Lakers, and has frequently employed players and coaches with Burnaby connections.
In October 2012, Govett was named vice-president of new business development for Kroenke Sports seeking out new ventures for the company’s portfolio.

Govett also found the time to be the team coordinator and general manager for Team Canada when it won the 2014 FIL World Field Lacrosse championships. In the final, Canada beat the United States for only the third time since 1974.
