It doesn’t get any better than an entire season with no losses culminating in becoming Canadian university champions. That’s what the 2004-05 version of SFU’s women’s hoop team did to set a school record for most victories in a season. And they did it in dominating fashion.
After not suffering any losses in league play, the women Clan swept the University of Calgary Dinos in a best-of-three series before beating Victoria in the Canada West semifinal and Regina in the final. At the Canadian Interuniversity Sport championship, SFU breezed past the Ottawa, Laval and Winnipeg university squads scoring a combined 67 points more than their opponents.
The team’s accomplishments earned head coach Bruce Langford Canada West and CIS coach of the year honours while guard Dani Langford was named a Canada West first-team all-star and the most valuable player of the CIS championship tournament.
Sport BC also named the Burnaby Mountain squad its 2005 Team of the Year.
