The Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame is excited about the City of Burnaby providing a prominent place to inform Burnaby residents and visitors about the proud history and future of the city’s thriving sports community in its new Burnaby Lake Aquatics and Arena project.

David Steen, Sr became the first Canadian to shot put over 60 feet. Captured three Commonwealth Games medals, gold in 1966 and 70 and bronze in 1962. Member of Canada’s national track and field team for eight years, where he moved national record from 52’1″ to 63’1/4″.

Member of powerful University of Oregon track team finishing second in 1963 NCAA championships. Ranked seventh in world that year with a throw of 61’11 l/4″. Held Canadian age class records during high school days at Burnaby South Secondary.
