Our appreciation and gratitude goes out to all our inductees, nominees and scholarship candidates. The Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame is excited about the City of Burnaby providing a prominent place to inform Burnaby residents and visitors about the proud history and future of the city’s thriving sports community in its new Burnaby Lake Aquatics and Arena project.

Helga Ovington brought fun to the sport of freestyle gymnastics to thousands of children over a period of 25 years as the head coach and founder of the Wings Gymnastic Society.

Ovington brought a philosophy of caring for kids first to the Cameron Recreation Centre club. There, she mentored many of the present coaches over the years, most of whom took their first tumble in gymnastics at Wings.

The non-profit society was all about inclusion and Ovington was always front and centre in making sure recreation was stressed as much as competitiveness in dance, ballet, trampoline, as well as gymnastics.

Ovington was an advocate for challenging a child to their own potential and never graded individuals to a structured level.
